What is Laptop? LAPTOP A laptop can as a PC that is used for portable also. This means that can be moved from one place to another. Therefore, it is necessary that it possesses two main features that are compactness and less weight. Central Processing Unit The central processing unit of a laptop works in such a way that maximum power is saved and also the amount of heat generated is minimal. Because of this characteristic feature of a CPU in the laptop, it provides high performance. 3. Graphical Processing Unit A wide range of laptops possess a graphical processing unit embedded in the CPU. Because of this arrangement, a lot of power and space on the laptop will be saved. In earlier laptops, the internal storage was composed of a Hard disk drive (HDD). But, later this was changed to solid-state drives with the invention of flash memory. The SSDs provide high and efficient performance compared to HDDs.But HDDs are highly preferred because of their low costs. 6. Removable Media Drive This feature of a laptop allows it to plug in various media components such as CD/DVD/BD. After using, these can be removed from the laptop. 7. Input This feature of a laptop allows a user to provide input to the system through a pointing device that is integrated (or) embedded in a keyboard. 8. I/O Ports A laptop provides various I/O ports in order to carry out various functionalities. Some of the ports are USB ports, monitor ports (MDMI), audio I/O ports, etc. 9. Expansion cards This feature allows a laptop to add (or) remove certain functionalities. These help in empowering a laptop with rich features. 10. Battery and Power Supply The type of battery used by laptops varies from one laptop to another. The latest laptops contain lithium-ion batteries and the older ones have Nickel-metal hybrid batteries. These batteries are powered by using a power supply. 11. Cooling This feature of a laptop cools it down from the excess heat generated due to the operations. For this purpose, modern laptops include heat pipes that drive out the waste heat out of the device. 12. Docking Station It is an accessory of a laptop that consists of a wide range of multiple ports and expansion slots. A laptop can be easily connected or disconnected to this by using a connector. 13. Charging Station In order to charge multiple laptops, charge trolleys are used that can be moved from one place to another. These are called as the charging stations, 14.
